Immerse yourself in Spanish while enjoying the beautiful mountains of El Potrero Chico!

As part of our new services, and in response to our guests suggestions, we are now offering Spanish Courses as a Second Language. Our Spanish courses will help students complete their travel experience in Mexico (and beyond), and also provide them with the opportunity to truly experience the community and culture of Nuevo Leon.

The Approach

Our approach is to assist students in developing communication skills for traveling in Spanish-speaking countries.

Specific Objectives

• To understand the spoken language in the context of the everyday situations studied. To understand means not to comprehend every word uttered, but to grasp the basic message.
• To speak using words, then phrases and simple sentences to give information, ask and answer questions, and participate in conversations in the contexts studied.
• To become aware of customs and attitudes of Spanish -speaking countries which apply to the contexts studied.

• To comprehend simple written materials such as signs, menus, timetables, ads, short dialogues, etc.
• To write simple phrases and sentences related to the situations studied.

Class Work

The emphasis in class is on oral communication:  listening and speaking skills.  It will include: talking about topics covered in the chapters and role -playing everyday situations.  There will be no systematic study of grammar:  only those structures needed to communicate in the situations presented. Topics include home, school, family, work, shopping, getting around on a trip. You will learn to greet others, introduce yourself and ask about others, ask where something is, ask for general information when traveling, talk about the time, dates, and weather, describe family members, work, and housing, buy clothing, and order something to eat or drink.

Included Activities

Conversational Club

To have the opportunity to improve your speaking and listening skills practicing with local people interested in exchanging languages. Takes place at la Posada, you and the local set the best time. We’ll introduce you to him/her, and we suggest 1 hour after class.

Learn in town activities

Experience traditional and amusing activities in town. Guided by one of our teachers or club members.

Programmed visits

Class encourages visits (for example to a restaurant, to Monterrey by bus, museums, market, movies, etc) so you can practice what you have learned.

Listening and comprehension

Watch a movie in spanish, read a newspaper and talk about it in class.

Evaluations

There will be oral and written evaluations programmed by the teacher.

Homeworks

Are such as to locate places or services in town, ask for information and directions to different locations.

To introduce yourself with locals and practice what you've learned.

Other activities related to what you've learned in class suggested by the teacher.

Class details

•Regular class is 3 days a week, 1 hour per class.

•Groups have a maximum of 10 students.

Where

The classes are held at Posada El Potrero Chico.

Fees and Tuition

• Payment is due at the beginning of each class.

• Includes work material.

• If class is not in the regular group,  the fee is for a custom class.
