One-Day Advanced Climbing Course

Ready to tie into the sharp end of the rope and start leading? This is the course for you. Spend the day learning lead climbing theory and practicing in a safe, controlled environment. This course will begin with a review of building sport anchors, anchor cleaning, and rappelling. Our instructors will then set up a mock-leading system that allows new leaders to practice clipping bolts without the risk of a lead fall. Once you’ve honed your skills mock-leading, you may complete your first lead climb. This is a great course for experienced top-rope climbers who are already on the verge of leading.

Required Skills:

·         Belay skills: Climber should be able to safely and effectively belay.

·         Knots: Climber should be able to tie the auto block; figure eight (as a follow through, as a Flemish bend, and on a byte); and overhand (as a follow through, as a Flemish bend, and on a byte).

·         Coils: Climber should be able to coil a rope into a Butterfly Coil.

·         Anchors: Climber should be able to safely build and clean sport anchors.

·         Rappelling: Climber should be able to safely perform a backed-up rappel.

Four-Day Advanced Climbing Course Combo: Lead Climbing, Self Rescue, and Multi-Pitching

Even something as common and simple as getting a rope stuck can be serious in the vertical world—especially when you begin to ascend multiple pitches.  As the lead climber, you should have the skills to rescue yourself and your partner in the event of an error, a failure, or an emergency. This course will cover lead climbing as well as self-rescue. We will spend the first two days learning lead-climbing theory and practicing mock-leading. We will also review intermediate skills such anchor building, anchor cleaning, and rappelling. As with all our advanced courses, demonstrating mastery of the skills may allow you to complete your first lead climb. The third day of this course we will learn about common climbing errors and practice self rescue techniques. On the final day of this course, you will climb a multi-pitch route while one of our instructors demonstrates multi-pitch sport climbing. This is an excellent course for the climber who wants to truly be competent in all aspects of the vertical world.
